What is this business?!
This is a small update on what's going on around the literature community, that's what this business is. The idea is to try and make the community more readily accessible for everyone, whether you're new or have been here for a while.
Please note: these updates will not be all-encompassing in terms of community happenings, as the community is quite frankly rather large. Instead, this article will focus specifically on things that are currently ongoing, or happened within the past fortnight. Literature DD Roundup: October 2012Greetings everyone!
As October has come to an end with spooky delight and tasty treats, it's clear we've had another month of wonderful literature features! Since the team has doubled in size we have consistently brought forth the two literature DD's a day, plus a contribution from staff member $Moonbeam13 made for a special Spirit Day with 3 Lit DD's!
Before I skip to the roundup, I would like to note that the team is very busy at the moment: ^neurotype is in India, ^NicSwaner and `thorns are both sorting out family issues, and ^Beccalicious had her baby! Because of this, our time on deviantART is limited and suggestions for DD's are extremely valued.

One-hundred weeks that is. In that time I've really come to appreciate how active and passionate the Literature Community on dA is; this community is truly amazing and I'm honored to be a part of it. And what better way to celebrate than to spread a little love and hand out some prizes? It's also a good excuse for me to hug you all.

A Romantic TakeoverRomance is no longer limited to lengthy novels that only women read. It's infiltrated every genre and can be found in nearly all literary works. Whether it's the focus of the novel or just a side story, romance adds to character depth and helps the reader grow an attachment to the characters and their stories.
While romance novels are defined by two characters meeting and growing an attachment to each other, romance as a sub genre doesn't have to follow these same rules. The story isn't going to revolve around the emotions brewing between the characters; the invading aliens, storming goblins, or murder mystery is the focus.
Let's take a deeper look into romance novel's roots and how it launched itself into other genres and took over literature as a whole.

You've all seen these, I am sure. The idea is one person starts a story with a single sentence. Each participant writes a comment that adds another sentence to continue the story. You can leave as many comments as you'd like, but no two can be back to back. Please make sure you read previous comments so you know what general direction the story is headed.

Some ground rules:

The story will be written in third person omniscient which allows us to be in any character's head at any time. But try not to do too much jumping as that gets confusing.

Absolutely stick to the ONE sentence per comment rule. They can be compound sentences.

Let's aim to have this story done by January 5th at 11:59pm Pacific Time. I'll compile all the comments into one

Literature News - Dec / Jan 2013Hello all! As you've probably guessed by the title of the journal and the Community Relations journal skin, this is the monthly update from the literature community volunteers.

We (the lit CVs) hope everyone had a wonderful and safe holiday with family and friends! The holiday season is always bustling fun, and this season was no exception. The literature community was busy with giving, celebrating, and loads of activities. I hope everyone is enjoying the new year because this rush of activity is continuing with a slew of new and renewed projects.

With a tip of the hat to all the people who came up with alternate universes as a way to explore awesome, impossible ideas...I bring you the alternate universe contest for original literature!
This contest is open from January 18-February 18 (PST, aka dA time). No extensions.
The process is simple.
Start with one of your own stories. It doesn't have to be super-fleshed out, but it does need to be written down in some form, even if it's as simple as a series of character sketches and the world they live in.Change something important. There's a lot of options. Ask yourself 'what if X had happened differently' and go from there. Aside from changing key plot points, you may want to significantly alter a character (yes, genderbending is acceptable).

One of the best things about finding new love is the excitement and anticipation of the unknown. All of us at one time have felt that exhilarating feeling of unforeseen passion. Lit Critique Sunday in CRLiterature!Come chat with us!
Hello all! This is an announcement to let you know that we'll be having some literature critique in :#CRLiterature: this Sunday! The first round will be hosted by `zebrazebrazebra on Sunday at 8 am GMT, and the second will be hosted by ^Beccalicious and myself 12 hours later, at 8 pm GMT! (What time are those for me?)
This way, those of you who are in odd time zones or have previous engagements for the weekend may have a better chance to take part and get/give some feedback!
